Church Of The Sacred Heart
The French architect Paul Tournon, who also developed numerous churches in France, led a fascinating experiment in the decorative use of cast concrete in Morocco with the Spiritual Heart Basilica in Casablanca.
This imposing cathedral is built in a neo-Gothic style with Moroccan Art Deco as well as Muslim influences.
The windows that pierce the upper parts of the sanctuary are evocative of a mosque's layout. The external buttresses along the roofing system have sharp angles as opposed to the typical contours.
In some cases, the basilica is exposed for excursions, which provide an amazing view of Casablanca and the Atlantic Ocean from the top of the towers.
