The House of Photography
The House of Photography opened its doors just 10 years ago, in 2009, a few steps from the Medina and the Medersa Ben Youssef.
This very beautiful riad has quickly become a must-see museum in Marrakech; you have to take the time to take a look at it. Indeed, the Maison de la Photographie brings together an impressive private photographic collection that stretches from 1870 to 1960 as an invitation to get to know Morocco and its history better through photography. It is a precious testimony from an anonymous or famous photographer that will take you back in time.
These magnificent archives are highlighted by the architecture of the place; it is particularly pleasant to stroll through the riad.
A rich and varied private collection and regular donations
The current collection includes nearly 10,000 old photographs; the most significant pieces are displayed for visitors in the riad. On two floors, you can discover documentary photos, art photos, moving portraits, street scenes, and scenes of daily life, as well as unpublished views of Morocco and its sumptuous landscapes.
Different photographic techniques are exposed and explained, and the formats are multiple: glass plates, postcards, newspapers, magazines, etc. Teachers and students are also welcome to visit the museum, which has a research center at their disposal.
Every six months, new exhibitions on different themes are proposed. Nowadays, you will be able to discover superb pictures of Morocco at the dawn of modernity.
And to finish your visit in beauty, do not miss the shop; you will find very beautiful paper prints but also original postcards that you will not find anywhere else.
After your visit, come and dine at our restaurant, Le Foundouk. We enjoy one of the most beautiful panoramic terraces in the city, and we are only 50 meters from the museum!
